Strategy

Stack

also called stacking

A formation where both partners line up on the same side before the serve, then switch positions mid-rally to keep the dominant player on a chosen half of the court.

Stacking is a doubles strategy for keeping a player's forehand (or backhand) covering a specific half of the court. Both partners line up on the same side at the start of the point; one player moves to the other side after the ball is in play.

Common in mixed doubles where one partner has a much stronger forehand or where an asymmetric pair wants to keep the better mover on a certain side. Pros stack as default; rec players generally don't.
