Erne
Volleying a ball outside the sideline by jumping or running around the kitchen — legal because you're not standing IN the kitchen.
An Erne is a play where a player volleys a ball at the net by either jumping over the kitchen corner or running around it onto the sideline. Because the player's feet never land inside the non-volley zone, the volley is legal.
The Erne is one of pickleball's signature shots — visually spectacular and tactically devastating. It's named after Erne Perry, the player who popularized it.
